Jimmy Chapman’s Memorial Ornament Display Tree
Woodworking has been an avocation for Jimmy Chapman for most of his life. He has a workshop in his basement and recalls with a chuckle his late wife, Reid, telling him she liked it "because it keeps you out from under foot."

A couple of years ago, he applied his woodworking skill to a project that overlapped with Reid’s long commitment to Hospice. "She loved Hospice," says Jimmy. She volunteered with the Hospice Foundation for many years sending letters to donors until cancer prevented her from continuing her weekly volunteer work.

After Reid died in 2006, Jimmy received ornaments in her memory for himself and each of his five daughters. He decided to display his collection of ornaments, so he contacted CarePartners Hospice Foundation to add ornaments from previous years. He doesn’t recall exactly how he got the idea for his display tree, speculating "I must have seen it somewhere. I’m a great copier." The result was a hand-carved and painted tree fitted with pegs on both sides – a lovely piece of art in its own right, made even more special by the addition of Memorial Ornaments from the past several years.

"The partridge in the pear tree is one of my favorites," says Mr. Chapman of 2007’s ornament. "I’ve told my daughters they’re collector’s items and that they should hold on to them." In addition to ornaments in memory of Reid, Jimmy has given several as gifts in honor of dear friends. He reflects fondly on the many friends who have been involved with hospice or have died with hospice care, "Hospice is a great organization."

Memorial Ornaments
This year’s ornaments are lovely pewter angels. Each one bears a tag on which volunteers inscribe the names of loved ones being honored or remembered. Simply make a donation to the Hospice Festival of Trees Fund to request an ornament be sent to you or to someone else as a gift. Please click here to download an ornament order form.
